Newsletter March 2018

Thank you to all parents and carers for your understanding and patience with school having to close for bad weather last week. For the most part, our texting system worked well. However, if numbers have changed or the system becomes very busy, some families may be missed. Please check the school website or our twitter feed @GlenairePS for updates when weather is bad. I hope that the worst is behind us and we shall soon start to see the green shoots of spring again!

Like many schools, the bad weather spoiled our plans last week. However, do not worry! We will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 9th March. We would like children to come in costume or with props to show their favourite book character and bring £1 for BookAid International. It would be great if everyone could bring along the book their character is from, too. If children have prepared a shoebox scene, these can be brought into school during the week.

We will be joining with Bradford City in their very popular penalty shootout fundraiser. More information to follow in a separate letter.

Miss Adamson, our Healthy Schools leader has organized all kinds of fixtures so Glenaire pupils can be represented in local sporting tournaments. Some of these take place after school, so we are very grateful to parents/carers who are helping us by dropping off and collecting their children. Because of your support, our school can be represented!

Since January, we have begun to offer those eligible for 30hrs funding a full-time Nursery place. Although many schools charge for lunchtimes, we currently provide lunchtime care amounting to 2.5hrs a week free of charge. Children who attend for the full day bring a packed lunch and have their lunch around a small table with the same adult every day.

Demand for these places has been higher than we first anticipated, and as a result we have had to turn some families away. A letter will be coming home shortly to see if morning nursery parents can help with this situation.

If you would like a nursery place for your child, whether 15 or 30hrs, please can I urge you to put their name on the waiting list as soon as possible. Glenaire Nursery has traditionally had spare places, but this is unlikely to be the case going forward and I wouldn’t want any child to miss their chance to become part of our wonderful Glenaire family.

Please note that from 12.03.18 until 26.03.18 there will be no crossing patrol at the start and end of school. I have spoken to the Road Safety Team who employ Mrs Cunningham but they have informed me they will not be able to provide cover. Please be extra cautious when crossing.
