With our wonderful natural school grounds and silver eco-schools status, Glenaire believes strongly in taking care of our environment. Even our uniform is green!
GLENAIRE OUTDOOR OFFER
We are currently in the process of developing our outdoor learning opportunities into something special – a passport which children follow through their years at Glenaire to record and celebrate their experiences and knowledge as they explore nature and learning in our wonderful school grounds and beyond.
Whilst this is still in development, our children already have a regular weekly time in the outdoor area, with plenty of time for developing social skills; free exploration and ‘safe’ risk-taking; caring for our garden; developing a whole range of outdoor practical skills and building their knowledge of our natural world. We believe this offer is crucial in supporting our children’s emotional and mental health as well as their overall wellbeing and ability to learn back in the classroom.
Following a successful fundraising project supported by Baildon Friends of the Earth and other community partners, we now have solar panels on our roof and have replaced a large proportion of school lighting with LED lamps which are much more energy efficient.
Head over to Year 4’s blog page to see how we have been using the data from our solar panels in lessons and how the children took part in our solar energy launch. You may have to scroll down quite a bit – the blog is full of Year 4 home learning!
