Year 2 Blog
Good morning Year 2! Not long to go now until the summer holidays 😁☀️
As some of you may have heard or read I am leaving Glenaire at the end of next week. 😔 I am off to work at Long Lee Primary School, one of the other Federation schools. I have really enjoyed having this class this year and I am genuinely disappointed that we didn’t get to finish the year together. All the children were making huge amounts of progress and were working really hard! I hope this positive attitude and dedication to learning continues next year. As for saying goodbye, due to the current situation we are unable to facilitate this 😭 however, I am trying to think of a way to do a remote goodbye. Don’t be too sad. Mrs A x

I will also be posting the pictures on the school twitter, so keep an eye out for them!
Tuesday 28th April 2020
Today I would like you to re-read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk from last week. Did anyone notice that the story wasn’t finished? I would like you to create a mind map or bank of ideas for what might happen next and how the story ends. This is your chance to be creative. Don’t just stick with one idea, write down lots of ideas for us all to share. I wonder who can come up with the most ideas?
Monday 27th April 2020
This worksheet covers a range of maths skills including: measuring, position and direction, adding, multiplication. See if you can have a go at answering all the questions. Don’t forget to post a picture to your portfolio on Class Dojo.
Friday 24th April 2020
This activity might take you a couple of days or even weeks if you do it right. I want you to watch the video of Topsy and Tim, while you’re watching it I want you to think about the equipment they use and that you might need to plant your own seeds. Make a list of things you will need to collect to plant your own seeds. Once you’ve made your list, collect the equipment and get planting! When your plant is in a good growing space try writing some instructions for what you did.
Make sure you look after your plant. It will need looking after and watering. It would be nice to see some plant diaries as well. Click on the link below to download your own plant diary!
Thursday 23rd April 2020
More maths today! Today I would like you to have a go at lesson 3 – measuring length in cm. You will need a ruler for this lesson. Make sure you use a ruler with cm on, not inches. Click on the image of the sheet below to download.
Measuring is great fun! Don’t forget to make sure whatever you are measuring is lined up with the zero! Otherwise your measurement will be wrong!
To encourage you to use the White Rose Maths Hub home learning resources, I have decided to set the first two lessons of this week as today’s task. Click on the link below to take you to the website. Watch the video and then have a go at completing the questions. (Grown ups, the answers are on there too!) Don’t forget to post a photo of your work to your class dojo portfolio.
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/
Below are links to the worksheets.
This first lesson is all about finding 3/4, something we have already covered in class. It will be good to see how much you have remembered.
The next lesson is all about counting in fractions. Make sure you watch the video to help you understand the questions. Remember to look carefully at the images, think about how many equal parts it has and how many of those parts are shaded. This will help you with the counting.
Don’t forget…for all your mathematical needs please use the White Rose Maths Hub Home Learning website. Before the Easter holiday we had been looking at fractions and the first couple of weeks were revision for the children. White Rose Maths Hub have released some more learning activities for this week and will continue to do so. The lessons on there are the lesson I would be teaching if we were at school. Please feel free to use these as and when you like. They are a fantastic resource (a very close second to my actual lessons!)

Monday 20th April 2020
Today I would like you to read the opening to the story Jack and the Beanstalk. You can read this independently or with a grown up. It might be nice to share with your family. Once you have read it, I would like you to either write down your favourite words and phrases or underline them (if you’ve printed it out). After that, you will need to underline or write down all the words you haven’t heard before or you don’t know the meaning to. Once you have made the list, use a dictionary to find out what they mean!
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

17.01.20 – What a fantastic start to the new term! We have hit the ground running in all areas of the curriculum. In English we have been reading about Bob the Man on the Moon and have started writing our own stories for his friends Billy and Sam. In maths we have been learning all about multiplication. We love using TT Rockstars to help us learn our times tables. The first week back we had our Explorer’s Day! We learnt about some famous explorers from Rose and Zoe as well as taking part in a range of explorer activities. Check out some of our work below!
Autumn Term
04.10.19 – We are starting to change the story of the Three Little Pigs in English. We have had to think of our own characters and the different materials they might use to build their houses. We also created a timeline of houses in History – looking at what the very first house looked like. We noticed the change in materials used in the houses. In the forest we enjoyed playing in the mud and attempting to make our own mud round house.
27.09.19 – This week we have been picking up the pace with our maths. We have learnt how to partition two digit numbers in different ways. We have used part part whole models and the base ten equipment to help us. On Thursday was our first time in the ICT suite, we had to learn to log on using our own username and password. Once on we used Google Maps to locate our houses in Baildon.
20.09.19 – What a week! We’ve done so much learning this week. We’ve been trying really hard to use different conjunctions in our writing, as well as working our way through the story of the Three Little Pigs. In Topic we looked more closely at different types of houses, we looked around our local area to see if we could spot the different houses.
13.09.19 – This week we have been focusing on our writing. We’ve been writing the story of the Three Little Pigs. In the forest we made houses out of different materials. Some of us used the sticks, some of us used the rocks and some of us used anything we could find. We made little fairy size houses and houses big enough for us to hide in. Mrs Adamson pretended to be the BIG BAD Wolf and tried to blow the houses down.
Welcome back! What a great first day we’ve had! We’ve picked out our new drawers, found our seats at the tables and even managed to cram in some learning amongst all the catching up! In English we had to act out the story of The Three Little Pigs. We did lots of place value work in maths and read lots of different books in guided reading!
Fantastic first day back Year 2! Let’s keep up the good work!
